The adult rheumatology elective is designed for third and fourth-year medical students wishing to gain basic understanding of rheumatologic history taking, examination, diagnosis, and treatment.

Evaluation

Uniform Clinical Evaluation, clinical conference participation

Description

Outpatient clinics: Medical students attend and see patients with Dr. Mizus at her office, located in Lutherville, MD. Students are expected to see outpatients and present these cases to attending physicians in the clinic.
 
Conferences: Students should contact Dr. Mizus a week prior to the start of their rotation to clarify reporting requirements and to receive the schedule.

Additional Notes

Learning Objectives:

  1. Practice taking a basic history for the adult patient presenting with a musculoskeletal complaint. 
  2. Perform a basic musculoskeletal examination. 
  3. Recognize exposure to a broad range of rheumatic diseases including systemic connective tissue diseases, vasculitis, seronegative spondyloarthropathies, crystalline arthropathies, bone and cartilage disorders, non-articular and regional musculoskeletal disorders.
